  1. It’s Just Me

The e5 is a low to mid-range model in the Roomba lineup-which puts it confidently in the upper mid-range of all robot vacuum cleaners on the market. This e5 isn’t perfect, but no robot vacuums are. With a little luck and an optimal environment, you may never encounter any issues with a top-tier model. If you’re looking to get the most for your money, I believe the e5 is a great choice for most users.Having run several full cleaning cycles, I am very impressed with the cleaning capabilities. I have a variety of low-pile carpet, low-pile rugs, and hardwood surfaces. Dirt, plant fibers, and loose strings are all picked up with ease, even better than some full-size vacuums I have used. I have a bench and carpet for taking off/putting on shoes, the latter of which had collected many small stones and other outdoor debris in the past. After one cleaning cycle, I couldn’t find a single small stone remaining. I thought the stones might be too heavy for the e5 to handle, but am pleased to share that they were picked up with ease! Small ledges and raised surfaces are no match for the e5. I even have an IKEA Poäng chair with wooden support rails on the ground; the e5 is able to go over the rails, navigate in a tight space to clean behind the chair, and cross back again. I’ve seen the e5 hesitate and rock back and forth before rolling off of the rails, but it has yet to get stuck. One feature that may be worth considering for larger areas (the area cleaned by my e5 is about 600 sqft) is home mapping, which is only offered by higher-end Roomba models (as well as some competitors). This may lead to more efficient routing, but the e5 is persistent and covers most of the area before completing a cycle. Over two or three cycles, I am confident that the e5 has cleaned every nook and cranny accessible to it. The one issue I have encountered is a low battery that prevented the e5 from returning to base and charging. I have no way to tell if it had attempted to return to base and failed to find it, miscalculated the remaining run-time and got stranded, or simply cleaned until it died. With mapping, iRobot advertises a charge and resume feature, unavailable on the e5. Personally, I don’t mind taking the e5 back the base to charge every once and a while, given increased cost of Roombas with mapping. Overall, I consider this to be minor, but certainly worth considering.Overall, I believe the e5 is going to be the best choice for most users. If you have a particularly large area to be cleaned, want to run several cleaning cycles between emptying the bin, or can’t stand the thought of hunting down a dead robot to return to base on occasion, then I wouldn’t rule out a more advanced model just yet. Based on industry reviews and tests I’ve found in my research, I would be hesitant to go with a lower model or save on an older model. The e5 has greatly improved cleaning capabilities, which appear to be a combination of new brush(rolls) and improved suction. But that’s JustMe.

Your browser does not support HTML5 video.  Update: I took my review down from fives stars to four stars – I cannot use the scheduled cleaning function with the Roomba because it has gotten stuck or unable to make it back to home base every single time. So, we need to use the Roomba while someone is here for the inevitable rescue.______________________________________I was a Roomba doubter. It seemed ridiculous, expensive and gimmicky. So, when I was offered a chance to use one of these gizmos, I jumped at it – mainly to prove my theory they aren’t needed. Plus, right out of the box, my cat absolutely detested it, hissed, puffed up and generally ran around in a state of terror.Whelp….more than a week later, I am in love. Never saw it coming. Our Roomba even has a name now – Emily – courtesy of my daughters. The cat has also been won over – coming from wherever she is napping to follow Emily around on her cleaning cycle. Entertainment for lazy house cats….apparently an unadvertised bonus? Here’s how we fell in love:-Don’t ask me if the Roomba has a pattern, she seems pretty drunk to me, but there is some method to the madness, because she does end up in all of the rooms and ends up picking up a lot of junk on the floor (before the Roomba we thought we were good housekeepers – apparently not).-She’s smart – she has built in sensors so she doesn’t slam into walls or fall down stairs. She slows down if she senses she is approaching something she might run into.-The Roomba phone app is fantastic, you can set a cleaning schedule and do all sorts of other cool things remotely from your phone._This Roomba is specifically designed with pet hair in mind. As you can see from the photos – she picks up alot. This was after we had vacuumed recently.-She holds a decent charge – over a hour and a half before needed to recharge again. Here’s some lessons learned:-She is a huge fan of Barbie hair and will suck up the hair of any doll on the floor, usually leading to a haircut for Barbie to get her out of the Roomba’s jaws. Same thing goes for mini blind cords, My Pretty Pony, etc.-If you pick the Roomba up and move it during the cleaning cycle, it will not find the Home Base when the Dock button is pressed, unless it is placed facing the Home Base within 6 ft (1.8 m) of the Home Base.Based on all the stuff she’s vacuumed up in recent weeks, I can’t thank her enough.

This product is worth every penny. My dog has fine, short hair and sheds horribly. This device worked AMAZINGLY on hardwood floors! The extra suction power for pet hair makes a huge difference. Even on our area rugs, the Roomba does a great job. If you are debating on whether or not to get this device, it makes life a whole lot easier with dusting and sweeping. The battery life is great- we keep ours on the charger while we aren’t using it. Setup and controlling the Roomba is very simple. It can be controlled straight from your phone. When the Roomba is done with its job or low on battery, it automatically returns to the charging port while sending you a notification of its movement.Overall, great product! Would recommend this to everyone.
